Job Description
Summary: Nurse Education Instructor Coordinates and conducts orientation and ongoing education programs for personnel providing direct patient care. Under the general supervision of the Director of Clinical Education, facilitates and enhances clinical practice and professional development for assigned nursing personnel. Evaluates the needs of various health professionals to ascertain, implement, and /or develop the best practices and/or programs to meet the healthcare staff needs. Responsibilities Develops and implements education/training programs both for professional and non-professional staff that directly impact patient care. Implements the general nursing orientation program as related to clinical practice. Instructs the proper segregation and safe disposal of hazardous pharmaceutical waste. Represents hospital in community and professional development activities. Assumes responsibility for own professional development by attending education programs and participating in other activities that enhance the practice of Nursing and Education. Qualifications EDUCATION: Baccalaureate of science degree in nursing required. All employees hired to Clinical Education on or before April 18, 2016, are considered grandfathered in terms of education and therefore are competent to perform their duties and responsibilities. LICENSURE, REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION: Current licensure as a Registered Nurse as approved by the Tennessee Board of Nursing for practice in the state of Tennessee. Obtains AHA BLS instructor status within 6 months of clinical education employment Obtains AHA instructor status in at least one of the following within 1 year of clinical education employment: ACLS, PALS Maintains AHA instructors statuses as required by AHA policy EXPERIENCE: Current skills in nursing practice and trends in an assigned specialty area. Knowledge of legal guidelines as normally acquired in 3 years of nursing experience, including two years in a specialty area preferred.
