  • Counseling In Schools (CIS) is currently seeking a part time (25 hour/ wk Monday
  • Friday) Community School Assistant providing programmatic support in a Brooklyn High School located in East Flatbush, tasked with the goal of increasing student attendance, family engagement and caregiver communication. The Community School Assistant supports the program by carrying out tasks that ensure programs run smoothly and we can provide quality services to administration, students, and their families. The ideal candidate will be responsible for a range of activities that will assist this organization's leadership.The candidate filling this role will be responsible for conducting regular outreach to families including student attendance outreach, coordination and facilitation of workshops and meetings for families, assistance with school events and trip planning, assistance with identification of community resources available to families and more.

This position may require additional occasional evening and weekend hours, based on program and organizational needs. Applicants must submit a resume and cover letter.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing administrative and programmatic support to the CSD and CIS team.
  • Take accurate and comprehensive notes at meetings.
  • Completing projects as assigned by CSD in a timely manner.
  • Keeping track of receipts.
  • Assisting with filing/scanning, photocopying, and mail projects.
  • Tracking and anticipating office and program needs to order supplies.
  • Schedule meetings and manage calendars.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and/or Haitian Creole is a plus- ability to conduct outreach to families.
  • Engage parents and families on a regular and consistent basis to create partnerships and build relationships
  • Conduct regular outreach to families regarding student attendance
  • Assist with the coordination and facilitation of workshops and meetings for both students and their families
  • Support students and empower families to prioritize student’s academic growth and focus
  • Other duties as assigned by Community School Director
  • Assist in Planning of community school events
  • Helping to create fun and engaging activities for students and caregivers.
  • Promoting social emotional activities and cultural fairs to students and families.
  • Creating flyers and promoting events.
  • Participation in school-wide and school building events.

Qualifications

Required

  • Strong writing and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Word Processing (MS WORD), and Spreadsheets (EXCEL), PowerPoint presentations.
  • Experience with data entry and database system maintenance.
  • Highly creative; skilled multi-tasker, precise attention to detail, and initiator; flexible.
  • Experience working with day and afterschool programs.
  • Experience with youth and adolescents.
  • Works collaboratively in a team-based setting.
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor under pressure and operate with a keen sense of urgency and commitment to quality.
  • NYC DOE fingerprints will be required during the hiring process.
  • Associates Degree required

Salary Range

$22.00-$25.00 hourly; commensurate with experience

This position is part-time (25 hours/ wk) Monday-Friday in-person. This position may require additional occasional evening and weekend hours, based on program and organizational needs.
