Job Description
- Provide education and support people affected by diabetes while helping them to better understand and manage their condition. Encourage self-management that promotes the achievement of individualized behavioral and treatment goals that optimize health outcomes in persons with diabetes across the health care continuum. Diabetes Educator Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of two year clinical experience required.
- Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) or Bachelor's degree in Nutrition/Dietetics, Exercise Physiology or closely related field required.
- Excellent teaching and communication skills (written and verbal) required.
- Ability to demonstrate initiative, teamwork and work with minimal direction required.
- Public speaking ability required.
- Basic knowledge in office computer tools such as Microsoft Office including PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required, must be from an American Heart Association (AHA) endorsed program (effective for new hires starting January 1, 2023 or later).
- Licensed Medical Nutrition Therapist through the State of Nebraska Department of Health and Registered dietitian through the Commission on Dietetic Registration required (if applicable).
- Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Nebraska or current compact state license (if applicable).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience providing diabetic education preferred.
- Masters degree in Nursing (MSN), Nutrition/Dietetics, Exercise Physiology or closely related field degree preferred. Certified Diabetes Educator Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of two years clinical experience to include educating patients on diabetes required.
- Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) or Nutrition/Dietetics, Exercise Physiology or closely related field required.
- Completion of Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) accredited through the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetic Education (CADE) of the American Dietetic Association (ADA) if applicable.
- If applicable, completion of a CADE accredited Dietetic Internship Program/Coordinated Program in Dietetics required.
- 1,000 hours of diabetes self-management education and completed and maintained active CDE certification (or equivalent) from a recognized diabetes certification body required.
- Excellent teaching and communication skills (written and verbal) required.
- Ability to demonstrate initiative, teamwork and work with minimal direction required.
- Public speaking ability required.
