Assistant Teacher
Summary Purpose for the Position
Assist the classroom teacher in the development, planning, and execution of the daily educational classroom activities in accordance with the Head Start Program Performance Standards, Corporate Plan of Action, and other mandated local, state, and federal licensing and regulatory requirements to meet the needs of the individual child.
Requirements: (Education, Experience, Certification, Knowledge, Skill):
High School/GED diploma and one-year experience working with children and/or training in the child care field.
Must posses technical and interpersonal abilities to the day-to-day classroom activities.
Must demonstrate ability to read and comprehend the daily lesson plan without changing the basic format or content.
Must develop an understanding of local, state, federal, and agency policies and procedures and the daily application of these mandates.
Must have current physical exam, mantoux tuberculosis screening, and clearances.
Position Responsibilities
The teacher assistant needs to follow the steps, methods, and procedures to fulfill program policies and objectives as mandated by regulations and as directed by immediate supervisor in the classroom.
Disinfecting toys.
Cleaning center.
Classroom set-up and tear-down.
Housekeeping duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Diaper changing according to policy.
Attend required center level training as mandated.
Prepare breakfast and/or clean-up.
Assume supervision and responsibility of the children in the teachers absence.
Attend external training as suggested by the teacher or education coordinator or as part of employee career development plan.
Attend center, staff, and service area meeting.
Immediately notify supervisor of any accidents/incidents relating to children, parents and staff.
Maintain all health and safety practices
Working Conditions/Environment
Position must frequently bend and lift up to 60 pounds.
Required to work indoors and outdoors on a daily basis, has exposure to individuals at a high risk of being infected with serious illness.
Delivery of food to classrooms when assisting with nutrition services including maintenance of food services facility when necessary.
Transportation Requirement
Position requires automobile, driver’s license and insurance.
