Job description

Position summary

The YMCA is seeking an energetic and certified Yoga Instructor to lead a variety of yoga formats—including Gentle Yoga, Yoga Flow, Power Yoga, Restorative Yoga, and Yoga Sculpt—in a safe, engaging, and inclusive environment. This is a morning position with scheduled hours between 6:00am and 7:30am and evening from 4:00-7:00pm, and requires a commitment to promoting the YMCA’s mission of healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.

Essential Functions

  • Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational group yoga classes as directed by the supervisor, in alignment with the YMCA’s mission and goals.
  • Teaches a variety of yoga styles including but not limited to Gentle Yoga, Yoga Flow, Power Yoga, Restorative Yoga and Yoga Sculpt, adapting instruction to accommodate different fitness levels and abilities.
  • Asks and answers questions from members to support their health and wellness goals.
  • Observes and adjusts instruction to support each participant’s capabilities, physical condition, health concerns, and cultural background.
  • Builds authentic relationships with participants and helps foster community within the class and broader YMCA.
  • Celebrates participants’ achievements related to wellness goals and mastery of yoga skills.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and organized studio environment before and after each class.
  • Maintains current knowledge of wellness trends and yoga practices to offer high-quality instruction.
  • Keeps accurate attendance records for each class.
  • Attends staff meetings and completes required training and certifications.
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds appropriately to emergency situations and incidents.

Education and experience

  • Current Yoga Instructor certification from a nationally recognized organization (e.g., Yoga Alliance, ACE, AFAA, NASM)
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain within 30 days of hire)
  • 1-2 years of experience teaching yoga in a group setting, including multiple formats, is preferred
  • Availability for early morning or evening classes and flexible scheduling, including weekends
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and motivational skills
  • Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lead and demonstrate yoga movements for the full duration of class
  • Able to lift and move yoga equipment (up to 25 lbs)
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic, people-centered environment
