Position Overview The School Nurse provides health services to students. The ideal candidate will have strong assessment, communication, and organizational skills and be committed to promoting the health and wellness of all students. Primary responsibilities include providing health assessments, implementing student health plans, and serving as a resource to students, families, and staff in support of Milken’s mission and values. Responsibilities Provide health assessments and obtain health histories. Functions independently in a "clinic" setting, often managing 35-50+ student visits a day, without a doctor present. Conduct screenings for vision, hearing, growth, and other health concerns. Observe and assess students for developmental or health-related issues. Identify abnormal health findings and determine appropriate next steps. Develop and implement individualized student health plans. Communicate student health status to parents, school staff, and relevant professionals. Initiate and follow up on referrals to parents, school personnel, or community health resources. Provide ongoing health counseling to students, parents, and staff. Maintain, evaluate, and interpret cumulative health data. Implement school health management protocols. Serve as a resource for health-related instruction and wellness initiatives. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Licensed Registered Nurse required. Bachelor in Science of Nursing (BSN) preferred. Authorization to dispense over-the-counter (OTC) medication. Current CPR or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Knowledge of principles and practices of professional nursing. Understanding of state and local laws related to health and social issues. Ability to exercise sound professional judgment and maintain confidentiality. Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with students, parents, staff, and community agencies. Ability to organize and manage a health office efficiently. High standards of dress and professional behavior. Self-motivated and able to work independently. Flexibility, commitment and professional behavior. Knowledgeable on triage emergencies and can initial emergency procedures. Assist the Director of Operations and other department staff with reasonable non-nursing or health & safety related requests Proficient with computers and relevant software applications Google Suite, Microsoft Office, etc.
