Early Childhood Support Assistant

Internship Description/Learning Objectives

Youth will learn foundational childcare skills, teamwork, communication, responsibility, and leadership by supporting early childhood environments, creating learning kits, and assisting with structured activities.

Job Duties

  • Assist staff with preparing learning materials
  • Organize books, toys, and early learning supplies
  • Help set up and clean activity areas
  • Support literacy activities (reading circles, story time prep)
  • Assemble learning kits (sensory bags, craft materials)
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment
  • Participating in youth-led planning and teamwork projects

General Information

Work Schedule Days and Hours: Monday–Friday,

8am – 12noon or 1pm – 4pm

The full program is June 1st – July 17th

Interns attend assigned worksite for scheduled times.

June 4th: POWER Youth Summit at Sheraton Music City Nashville Airport

June 5th – July 17th: Team Members on site at their agencies on Monday-Friday at the time

scheduled by employer. You will be scheduled to work 4 hours daily

which equals 20 hours per week.

POWER Youth Summer Employment Program - End of Summer

Celebration – Team Members can showcase their projects from the

summer.

If you are selected as an Experience Work Team Member, you will make $12.00 an hour and receive a summer program with project-based employment for youth ages 14 -15.

Experience Work projects can be focused on the arts, leadership skills or community development. In addition, you will learn “work ready” skills for future employment. There are opportunities to intern in many areas of Nashville, so please select the opportunity based on your access to transportation.

The POWER Youth program, previously known as Opportunity NOW, provides career exploration and work experience activities for youth 14 to 24 years old. The name POWER Youth was selected by the peer youth leadership team based on how they view themselves and their future.
