Job description

Position Summary/Purpose

  • Grand Canyon University (GCU) maintains relationships with nonprofit organizations identified by the IRS as 501(c)(3) by virtue of their charitable programs. The collective mission of 501(c)(3) organizations in the Phoenix Valley is to improve the quality of life for community residents or to solve particular problems related to those residents’ needs. GCU maintains a partnership with Where Hope Lives located at 3210 Grand Avenue, Phoenix, AZ, 85017. Where Hope Lives offers a long-term resident program for survivors of human trafficking which focuses on healing from trauma and regaining life skills to successfully live independently. The CSLP student worker’s work schedule is dependent on the hours of operations and needs of Where Hope Lives; however, CSLP student workers may not work more than 20 hours per week during the academic year (i.e., fall/spring).
  • CSLP: This position has been reviewed and approved as Community Service as defined by 34 CFR 675.2(b). Per 34 CFR 675.2(b), community services are defined as, “Services which are designed to improve the quality of life for community residents, particularly low-income individuals, or to solve particular problems related to their need.” These services must be open and accessible to the community. As an FWS-CSLP approved position, its services will be offered to non-GCU community members (i.e., local residents).

  • Functions: Seeking to fill four positions. Must be female. Social Work and Counseling students encouraged to apply. Must have a valid AZ Driver’s license and able to transport residents to doctor’s appointments using company vehicles. Provide encouragement and support to residents during their care such as being available for prayer or “talk times.” Ensure residents are aware of and adhere to their schedules. Ensure that “Service Areas” and “Common Areas” are clean and in order (i.e., TV room, living areas, bathroom sinks, mirrors, shower rooms, and toilets). As necessary, complete Incident Reports and provide them to Caregiver’s mailbox. Communicate any indication of possible resident issues/problems to Caregivers and refer, if necessary, to the Program Director for follow-up. Present and uphold all “Where Hope Lives” policies and procedures as outlined in manual. Other duties as assigned. Equipment Used and Responsibility MS Office Suite

  • Qualifications: Have passion and willingness to help others succeed. Possess strong ethics, integrity, and sense of responsibility Previous Mentoring a plus. Ability to speak a second language a plus. Must have reliable transportation. Must have valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Experience/Education: Grand Canyon University is committed to a student first policy. Therefore, all applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements to be considered for student employment: Enrolled at GCU as a full-time student in a bachelor’s program or master’s program. Maintain a 2.0 GPA as a Bachelor level student or a 3.0 GPA as a Master level student. Maintain good financial and academic (SAP) standing with the University. You may be subject to termination if you fall below the minimum requirements.
