  • Program: Since January 8th 1948, Easterseals New Jersey has worked to meet the continuously growing needs of people with disabilities and their families. In its Extended Employment program, participants work with dedicated employment service staff to learn work-readiness skills that will prepare them to work out in the community at an actual job site. Not only will they experience what it’s like to work in a professional environment, but they will even earn a paycheck.
  • What
  • You’ll Do: The Career Counselor will lead all phases of securing competitive community employment for individuals with developmental disabilities. They will develop curriculum-based vocational trainings, and conduct onsite classes in preparation of career and job development. They also assess and exercise judgement in a participant’s readiness for competitive employment as well as support the participant in the community.
  • Key responsibilities include: Develop measurable fundamental employment plans that will help break down barriers to employment to help reach a participant’s fullest potential. Function within the existing service delivery system by providing a person-centered approach. Promote job development as opportunities arise and assess interest in career options. Manage the actual performance of job tasks while reinforcing positive work habits. Provide clear and concise reports that identify interventions that help obtain/retain an employment placement. Network with local businesses & colleges to educate and inform all potential partners about our agency mission. Provide on site vocational training to ensure employment success. Interact effectively and professionally with internal and external stakeholder.

Experience

Two years’ working experience in vocational rehabilitation preferred.

Skills

Strong verbal and written communication skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Excel, and Word. This role requires driving as an essential function. Candidates must have a valid driver's license and be subject to post-offer verification of driving eligibility consistent with company insurance requirements.
