The successful candidate will provide health services and assist in implementing health related policies/procedures within the school.

Minimum Qualifications

Licensed as a registered nurse by the Alabama Board of Nursing. 2 years of experience.

Preferred Qualifications

BSN, school nurse and/or pediatric nurse experience.

Classification: Exempt, full-time, and salaried

  • Terms of Employment 11-month position which includes training prior to the beginning of the new school year and summer program(s).
  • Evening and weekend hours required > 1pm - 9pm shift Essential Duties Uphold professional standards of the state Nurse Practice Act.
  • Collect health information about the student’s past and present health history.
  • Responsible for maintaining current immunization record upon student’s entering ASMS.
  • Provide health appraisals/assessments of students.
  • Provide health services including routine care, First Aid, and emergency care.
  • Medication administration according to State Law.
  • Provide relevant instruction, counseling, and guidance to students, parents, staff and others concerning health-related issues.
  • Liaison between medical offices, hospitals, parents, students, etc., regarding student health issues.
  • Serve as liaison with the Medical Review Officer.
  • Drug testing.
  • Reporting suspected child abuse.
  • Assist in implementing policies/procedure for control of communicable disease within the school.
  • Participates in team meetings and parental conferences related to student health issues.
  • Schedule medical appointments.
  • Order medical supplies.
  • Available by phone after hours.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the administration, faculty, staff, students and the general public.
  • Provide medication administration, CPR, First Aid, and other relevant training to Residence Life and other staff and faculty members.
  • Implement the mission, goals and policies of the Alabama School of Mathematics and Science.
  • Various other duties as assigned by the President/Vice President/Dean/Director.
  • Technology Exhibit computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office, web-based programs, social media networks, and email as a primary mode of communication/documentation.
  • Continuous Improvement Serves on ASMS committees as assigned.
