Job Description
Portledge is seeking to hire two dynamic Middle School Physical Education Teachers who are driven to create a classroom environment where student learning is a non-negotiable goal and passion is evident on a daily basis. This position will contribute in a variety of ways to school life at Portledge School and report to the Middle School Division Head. Responsibilities include teaching Middle School PE across grades 6 - 8, coaching the equivalent of grades 5-8 during all three athletic seasons, serving as a Middle School Advisor, participating collegially in Middle School Division meetings and Health & Wellness Department meetings and initiatives, and taking an active role in the life of the school community.

- Staying current with educational research and pedagogy related to classroom instruction and educational trends
- Maintaining online Atlas curriculum database for courses taught
- Coach at least 1 sport for in all three seasons (Fall, Winter, or Spring) during the year
- Coaching responsibilities should be the equivalent of the time commitment required to coach 5/6 and 7/8 for a given sport in a particular season
- Acting as a Middle School Advisor
- Attending a minimum of 4-6 evening/weekend programs that support the community throughout the year

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in PE preferred.
- NYS Certification in PE preferred.
- Experience teaching or coaching children in grades 5 - 8 preferred.
- Strong ability to communicate with multiple constituencies, both in writing and in speech, and comfort working in a collaborative setting.
- Organization and attention to detail.
