Job description

The Assistant Teacher, an essential role in advancing our mission, helps to create a nurturing, inclusive and engaging environment where children can safely learn, grow and thrive. Working in close partnership with the Lead Teacher, this position supports the implementation of developmentally appropriate activities that promote the social, physical and intellectual growth of each child.

Through this partnership, the Assistant Teacher builds skills in early childhood education while fostering children’s cognitive, social-emotional and physical development, helping to foster confidence in the classroom and a lifelong love for learning.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Lead Teacher in executing thoughtfully planned curriculum and instruction, ensuring high-quality implementation of all classroom activities.
  • Utilize program tools, resources and training to carry out organizational initiatives with consistency.
  • Foster meaningful, high-quality verbal interactions with children throughout the day to strengthen language development and relationships.
  • Assist in daily classroom routines that serve as opportunities for purposeful engagement and learning.
  • Learn and apply brain-based strategies and guidance from organizational research to support each child’s self-regulation and positive behavior.
  • Maintain a clean, organized and safe classroom environment, ensuring all materials and equipment are well cared for and conducive to learning.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/ Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Genuine interest in working with children
  • Ability to engage with children in a patient and supportive manner
  • Strong communication, decision-making, problem-solving, time management, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to stand for long periods throughout the workday with intermittent periods of sitting, walking, and occasional bending, twisting, stooping, reaching and grasping as necessary to carry out essential job duties.
  • Dexterity requirements range from coordinated movements of fingers and hands to simple movements of feet, legs, and torso as necessary to carry out essential job duties.
  • Lifting and carrying of children and/or objects up to 50 pounds
