The Assistant Preschool Teacher provides direct supervision to a group of children in the Enrichment Program. Creates positive, nurturing relationships with children, while building cooperative relationships with parents/caregivers. Promotes and supports the potential of all children in program and facilitates peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall preschool experience.
  • Successful candidate will demonstrate the following: experience working with young children, familiarity with the State of Maine Early Childhood Learning Guidelines, Creative Curriculum, and NAEYC Accreditation Standards, current CPR/First Aid certification, excellent oral and written communication skills, and a commitment to the field of early care and education.

The Assistant Toddler Teacher provides direct supervision to a group of children in the Enrichment Program. Creates positive, nurturing relationships with children, while building cooperative relationships with parents/caregivers. Promotes and supports the potential of all children in program and facilitates peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall preschool experience. Successful candidate will demonstrate the following: experience working with young children, familiarity with the State of Maine Early Childhood Learning Guidelines, Creative Curriculum, and NAEYC Accreditation Standards, current CPR/First Aid certification, excellent oral and written communication skills, and a commitment to the field of early care and education. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Supports Lead Teacher and works as a team to supervise a group of children. Assists with lesson plan implementation and program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate, and consistent with YMCA values. Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards. Attends staff meetings and trainings. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies. Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS: An Associate’s Degree in ECE (preferred) and active Ed Tech III certification through Maine DOE. Previous experience working with children, preferably in a childcare setting. At least 18 years of age. State of Maine childcare provider background check CPR, first aid, AED certifications, and child abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
