- Range: $105,000.00 - $115,000.00 SalaryPosition Summary The Harker School is seeking a dynamic, compassionate and highly organized Registered Nurse to join our collaborative nursing team at our Lower School campus. This full-time role serves approximately 620 students in grades K–5 and provides direct health care services to students and employees during the school day. The Lower School Nurse evaluates, treats and administers care for students and staff, coordinates care with parents and school personnel, and supports the overall health and safety operations of the campus. Qualifications Current, active and unrestricted California Registered Nurse (RN) license Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred Current CPR and AED certification required Experience working with school-aged children preferred Ability to communicate effectively with children ages 5–11 and their families Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail Ability to remain calm and exercise sound judgment in fast-paced situations Strong written and verbal communication skills High level of professionalism, discretion and confidentiality Passion for working within a diverse and collaborative school community Daily Nursing Duties Assess, evaluate and treat student and employee illnesses and injuries Administer medications in accordance with school policies and parent authorization Notify parents regarding student illness or injury when appropriate Maintain accurate electronic health records and documentation Monitor trends in student illness or injury and communicate concerns with parents, teachers, counselors and administrators Collaborate with counselors and deans regarding students’ emotional and behavioral health needs Identify and report unsafe campus conditions Function independently while collaborating with the Director of Health Services and nursing team as needed Health Office & Compliance Oversee daily operations of the Health Office Maintain student health information and records in Magnus Health and other electronic health systems Ensure compliance with immunization and health requirements Coordinate and administer COVID-19 testing and related protocols Distribute exposure notifications for contagious illnesses in accordance with Santa Clara County Health Department guidelines Process health forms and compliance documentation for new students and summer programs Emergency Preparedness & Student Safety Provide triage and medical leadership during emergencies and disaster situations Prepare and maintain first aid supplies and emergency response kits Support overnight and multi-day school trips by ensuring student health and medication needs are met Monitor and track accident reports Assist with Workers’ Compensation referrals as directed by Human Resources Collaboration & Communication Communicate professionally and compassionately with students, parents, colleagues and medical providers Collaborate with faculty and staff regarding student health and safety concerns Work closely with the Director of Health Services, fellow school nurses and substitute nurses Knowledge, Skills & Physical Requirements Ability to safely administer first aid and medications Ability to assist students experiencing illness, injury or loss of consciousness Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and use appropriate body mechanics Ability to hear conversations, emergency announcements and telephone communications Ability to use computers and electronic systems for documentation and communication Ability to work independently and collaboratively Working Conditions This position works primarily in a school health office environment with no hazardous working conditions.
