  • Category: Other POSITION SUMMARY Lifeguards serve to ensure the safety of Girl Scouts and staff as they supervise the pool area, facilitate swim tests, and maintain all lifeguard specific equipment. Lifeguards are familiar with the facility and camp rules and are to enforce these rules in and around the pool.

Responsibilities

  • Observe swimmers to ensure they adhere to pool rules and maintain order.
  • Ensure that all swimmers in the water are accounted for at all times.
  • Ensure that all water safety rules are observed by swimmers, utilizing a good knowledge of all aspects of water safety procedures.
  • Keep track of time for guarding rotations and water breaks.
  • Keep the pool area clean and clear of debris, trip hazards and other possible injury hazards.
  • Perform rescue work when necessary and render first aid until such time as qualified emergency personnel is present.
  • Complete appropriate incident reports.
  • Track weather for possible thunder and lightning storms.
  • In the event of thunder and lightning storms, follow protocols to evacuate campers and transfer their care to other staff members.
  • Execute emergency action plans in the event of an emergency.
  • Opening and closing the pool at the start/end of each shift.
  • Attend all in-services and trainings.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) highly desirable. QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be at least sixteen years of age.
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training certification or equivalent required.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of people.
  • Promote a diverse, equitable and inclusive environment for all.
  • Maturity, sound judgment, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to assist in an emergency in a calm and mature manner.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to arrange for timely transportation to and from pool location. If driving, proof of meeting Arizona State requirements regarding auto licensing, driver’s license, and liability insurance, if applicable.
