Pathways in Education is a year-round Non-Profit Alternative Learning Opportunities Program who work alongside their students to design individualized learning plans. We work to effectively meet their unique academic, social-emotional, and scheduling needs through a blended teaching model. We utilize one-on-one instruction and tutoring, independent study, online learning, small group classes, cultural immersion, and hands-on activities. Job Summary: The primary responsibility of the Substitute Teacher is to monitor student scheduling and progress, administer tests, provide academic support, and other related services to their students. Job Duties: A. Substitute Teaching Provide high quality, subject-specific instruction, and academic support Accountable for student work product according to the academic calendar (Independent Study) and assumes full classroom responsibilities and duties providing direct instruction from lesson plan Grade student work including essays and projects Provide academic feedback to students Communicate with the teacher of record upon their return B. General Support Provide instructional teaching support to assist center teaching staff as needed Communicate with supervisors Assist staff with center organization Support center with additional grading support Proactively manages their personal schedule to support the needs of the center(s) Required Licenses/Certifications: BA or BS Degree Valid IL Substitute Teacher Credential Proficiency in Microsoft Office Software PIE is a non-profit organization that partners with public schools to provide dropout recovery and prevention programs, including: schools (located in LA, TN, and IL); college tours; and experiential programs that help students learn teamwork, resiliency, leadership, self-confidence, and communication. Pathways’ schools utilize a blended learning model, combining independent study and small group instruction, focusing on academic recovery, experiential learning, and life and job skills development. With a focus on one-on-one mentorship, PIE teachers and advisors are able to show struggling students the potential that they have not been able to see in themselves. PIE’s experiential programs promote not only social and personal growth, but community involvement, environmentalism, and STEAM learning, and are proven to increase high school graduation rates among attendees.
