Job Summary
The Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nurse (WOCN) provides specialized nursing care, education, and consultation for patients with disorders of the gastrointestinal, genitourinary, and integumentary systems, as well as those with acute or chronic wounds or at risk for impaired skin integrity. This role functions across acute care and rehabilitation settings, serving as a clinical expert, educator, and patient advocate. The WOCN collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement evidence-based plans of care aimed at optimizing patient outcomes and functional status. The WOCN may obtain additional certification as a Certified Foot Care Nurse (CFCN) to provide specialized foot and nail care services.

Minimum Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN required.
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina.
- Minimum of two (2) years of acute care clinical experience.
- Completion of an accredited WOCN education program.
- Current WOCN board certification required.
- Current CFCN certification required if functioning in that role.
- Demonstrated competency in patient and staff education.
- Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the nursing unit(s). The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs.
