Job Description

Barr-Reeve Community Schools is seeking a passionate and student-centered Elementary Teacher to join our team. We are looking for an educator who fosters a love of learning, builds strong relationships, and supports the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral growth of every student.

Position Summary

To plan and deliver rigorous, standards-based instruction; to facilitate student engagement and mastery of grade-level content; and to support student growth within a positive and inclusive school environment.

Essential Functions The following duties are considered essential functions of this position.

  • Instructional Responsibilities Plan and deliver instruction aligned with Indiana Academic Standards.
  • Develop lesson plans that promote student engagement, critical thinking, and academic growth.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, materials, and technology.
  • Maintain a stimulating and effective teaching-learning environment.
  • Utilize approved instructional materials and appropriate equipment or technology for educational purposes.

Assessment and Student Progress Assess student learning using a variety of methods. Provide timely and meaningful feedback to students and families. Maintain accurate records of grades and student progress.

Classroom Environment and Student Supervision Maintain high expectations for student conduct and enforce school expectations. Establish a positive, respectful, and student-centered classroom culture. Maintain appropriate supervision of students at all times.

Professional Responsibilities Attend meetings as required by the superintendent, principal, or designee. Participate in curriculum study groups, committees, professional development, and school improvement efforts as assigned. Collaborate with colleagues, staff, and administration. Communicate effectively with parents/guardians.

Additional Duties Maintain records in accordance with district policy and procedures. Perform other duties as assigned by the superintendent, principal, or designee.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education or related field. Valid Indiana Teaching License in Elementary Education or eligibility to obtain. Strong instructional, organizational, and communication skills. Knowledge of child development and effective instructional practices. Commitment to a positive and inclusive learning environment.

  • Frequent standing, walking, and movement throughout the classroom.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a classroom setting.
  • Ability to operate instructional technology and classroom equipment.
  • Occasional lifting of instructional materials up to approximately 25 pounds.

Work Environment Work is performed primarily in a classroom setting. The environment includes regular interaction with students, staff, and families and may involve moderate noise levels during classroom activities.

Terms of Employment Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check as required by Indiana law and compliance with all Board policies and negotiated agreements. This position follows the teacher contract and may include responsibilities beyond the regular school day.
