Job description

Overview Full-time, salaried PM&R physician for an academic faculty appointment at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. This position is dedicated to inpatient PM&R consultation services at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital (SNGH), a nationally recognized Level I Trauma Center and quaternary referral center. Physicians will join a dynamic academic department committed to high-quality patient care, interdisciplinary collaboration, and exceptional resident and medical student education.

Responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities Provide inpatient PM&R consultations for patients with complex medical, neurological, and trauma-related conditions at SNGH Evaluate and manage patients with impairments affecting the brain, spinal cord, nerves, bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, and tendons Develop comprehensive rehabilitation plans focused on functional recovery and discharge planning Monitor patient progress, document clinical findings, and adjust treatment recommendations as needed Collaborate closely with hospitalists, trauma teams, neurosurgery, orthopedics, therapists, case management, and nursing Educate patients and families regarding diagnosis, prognosis, treatment plans, and functional expectations Participate in weekend call rotation for inpatient rehabilitation/consult service duties Academic Responsibilities Teach and supervise PM&R residents, medical students, and other learners Contribute to curriculum development, evaluation, and educational innovation Participate in academic, clinical, and/or quality improvement projects Departmental Responsibilities Engage in departmental policy development, committees, and administrative responsibilities Foster a professional culture that aligns with EVMS and hospital policies

Qualifications

MD or DO degree Completion of an ACGME-accredited PM&R residency Board certified or board eligible in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Eligibility for Virginia medical licensure and DEA certification Strong interest in academic medicine and commitment to combining clinical practice with education and scholarly activity Excellent communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills Location : Location US-VA-Norfolk
