Description Summary
The Temporary Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) serves as the Designated Breastfeeding Expert for Alliance Medical Center’s WIC Program. This position provides advanced lactation assessment, counseling, and care coordination for WIC participants; supports Breastfeeding Peer Counselors BFPC when needed; ensures compliance with WIC State and Federal breastfeeding policies; and promotes a breastfeeding-friendly culture within AMC and the community.
This is a temporary position.
- Some Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Temporary Lactation Consultant will include: Handles Breastfeeding Triage Forms, and determines course of action, including phone calls or scheduling to be seen, and any follow-up needed.
- Provides comprehensive lactation assessments, counseling, and follow-up care plans for WIC participants experiencing complex breastfeeding concerns.
- Provides lactation consultation via in-clinic visits, telehealth, phone, hospital coordination, and home visits (as appropriate).
- Handles faxed hospital referral forms for pump exchange and appropriate follow-up for non BFPC participants.
- Communicates and collaborates with AMC medical providers, CPSP providers, pediatricians, and other healthcare professionals regarding high-risk or medically complex cases.
Requirements
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Current CPR certification required. International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Demonstrated experience in breastfeeding management and promotion. Minimum of one year experience in counseling breastfeeding women. Knowledge of lactation principles to assess needs and provide counseling and education to families Knowledge and skilled in the physiology and clinical management of lactation. Knowledge of the lactation process, antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum health care and psychosocial issues.
Education and/or Experience
High School Diploma required. Minimum 1 year experience as IBCLC preferred.
Language Skills
Bilingual English/Spanish, both verbal and written required.
