Job description
- Monsignor Slade Catholic School, a Catholic PreK2-8 school in Glen Burnie, MD, seeks a passionate, child-centered Part-Time Librarian rooted in the Catholic faith.
- We are committed to forming the whole child academically, socially, and spiritually while serving a diverse community of students.
- The ideal candidate will foster a love of reading and literature while supporting our mission to educate hearts and minds in the light of the Gospel.
- This role is instructional and relational in nature and is not a media specialist position.
- This position is for the 2026–2027 school year.
- Note that this position will work 25 hours per week.
Essential Functions
- Create a welcoming, organized, and engaging library environment.
- Teach age-appropriate library classes for students in PreK4–5th grade (30–45-minute periods), focused on literature appreciation, author studies, and foundational research and information literacy skills.
- Read and select age-appropriate, mission-aligned literature to be stocked in the library.
- Curate, maintain, and catalog a diverse, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate library collection.
- Plan, organize, and lead schoolwide reading initiatives and incentives.
- Coordinate and schedule two book fairs annually.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to support curricular units and student projects.
- Work with administration to maintain and responsibly steward the library budget.
Position Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in library science, elementary education, or a related field preferred but not required.
- Prior experience working with or teaching lower-school-aged children preferred.
- Strong knowledge of children’s literature and literacy development.
- Familiarity with basic library management systems and educational technology preferred.
- Alignment with and respect for the mission and values of Catholic education.
Range
$20,000 - $26,000, Annualized
