Job description

Shawnee Health is seeking a Certified Doula for Shawnee Health OB/GYN clinics and/or Shawnee's Healthy Families Program.
- Provides prenatal and postpartum health and social-emotional parenting education in Shawnee Health clinics and community-based social services programs as assigned.
- Assesses and instructs parents in prenatal bonding activities following curriculum and best practices.
- Provides support and education on post-partum issues including lactation, breastfeeding, post-partum depression care strategies, personal health and safety, sexual health, reproductive, and family planning, and post-partum mother and baby health.
- Provides home visiting and/or clinic-based supports during pregnancy and post-partum with assigned participants/patients. Provides parent education and support, referral and linkage to community services, crisis and case management support.
- Attends labor & delivery, providing labor and delivery support.
- Coordinates or assists in coordinating group activities. Serves as lead group facilitator for prenatal groups and breastfeeding groups.
- Travels locally to attend meetings and provides limited transportation for participants to services as needed.
- Documents activities, interaction and progress for each family in participant/patient record as required by assigned work department.
- May supervise subordinate doula staff as assigned.
- Cultivates relationships with clinicians and consultants within and outside Shawnee Health to foster collaborative relationships that ensure enrolled families receive high quality services.
- Engages in outreach and enrollment activities, including regular contact with referral sources, attending community events to seek referrals and promote the doula program.
- Participates as a team member in supporting doula services within the Healthy Families program framework and health center settings.
Education & Experience Requirements
- Mandatory
- Doula certification from an Illinois-state approved certification body.
- Lactation specialist certification from an Illinois-state approved certification body.
- Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in related field.
- Two years experience in early childhood, maternal and infant health, health education, or human services related field.
- Experience with parent education and support.
Pre-Employment Requirements
- Employee must pass all pre-employment requirements as delineated below. Employee’s failure to pass all pre-employment requirements as determined by Shawnee Health shall result in employee’s immediate termination, or, if not yet hired, withdrawal of job offer.
