Job overview
School counselors at LEAD Public Schools play a pivotal role in fostering a positive school culture while addressing the diverse needs of our students. They act as mediators for student issues and proactively support behavioral, emotional, and educational needs. Counselors collaborate with teachers, deans, assistant principals, and school directors to implement solutions that prioritize students' best interests.
Major performance responsibilities and duties
- Counseling
- Coordinate and lead school-wide efforts to implement and monitor RTI and S-Team processes.
- Collaborate with grade-level teams, teachers, and parents/guardians to address and support student needs.
- Provide direct services to students and families through individual and group support.
- Deliver crisis counseling and consultation to students and staff as needed.
- Conduct in-service training for staff on relevant topics.
- Perform home visits when necessary.
- Supervise counseling interns (optional).
- Stay informed on state and national counseling trends and policies.
- Implement a school-wide student needs assessment and analyze results to develop data-driven interventions with stakeholders.
- Fulfill other job-related duties as assigned.
- School culture
- Collaborate with student behavior teams to develop initiatives and strategies.
- Support the creation of the school culture vision and associated goals.
- Build buy-in from teachers, staff, and students to foster a positive culture while modeling strong relationships within the school community.
- Support the planning and execution of events like Student-Led Conferences, College Trips, Spirit Week, awards ceremonies, and other celebrations.
- Develop positive relationships with students and support teachers in doing the same, both in and outside the classroom.
- Work with the Family Engagement Coordinator to enhance family involvement in student learning and support.
- Student support
- Provide information to school-based teams to monitor student data trends (e.g., GPA, attendance, behavior).
- Assist in refining and implementing school-wide behavior systems (e.g., merit/demerit systems, detention).
- Lead the analysis of student data to develop strategies for improving behavior.
- Support teachers in addressing the social and emotional needs of students.
- Data analysis
- Analyze school-wide student support data to identify trends and recommend interventions.
Qualifications
Experience
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a K-12 school setting (urban schools preferred).
- Previous experience leading RTI and S-Team processes is preferred.

Education
- Current licensure in School Counseling, School Social Work, or Licensed Professional Counseling (with school-based experience), OR
- An advanced degree in School Counseling or Social Work from an accredited college or university is required
Compensation
This is a full-time, exempt position. Compensation is competitive and commensurate with
experience, including full benefits and technology provisions.
