Job Description

The Youth Development Professional 1 (YDP 1) at the Boys and Girls Club plays a pivotal role in providing a safe, nurturing, and enriching environment for young club members. This position is responsible for assisting in the planning and implementation of various programs and activities that foster personal and academic growth, character development, and healthy living among children. For our 2025-2026 aftercare program, we are looking for a professional, enthusiastic, and nurturing afterschool counselor. This key role involves supervising and engaging with campers to ensure a safe, enjoyable, and enriching afterschool experience.

Key Responsibilities

Program Assistance

  • Assist in planning, organizing, and implementing a variety of programs and activities designed to promote the physical, emotional, and social development of club members. Collaborate with other staff members to create a dynamic and engaging program schedule. Supervise and actively participate in club activities to ensure the safety and well-being of all club members.
  • Member
  • Engagement: Build positive relationships with club members by being a role model and mentor. Foster a supportive and inclusive atmosphere where every child feels valued and included. Encourage club members to participate in programs and engage in learning activities.

Behavior Management

Assist in maintaining a positive behavior management system that reinforces club rules and expectations. Address any behavioral issues or conflicts appropriately and in line with club policies. Promote a respectful and inclusive environment for all club members.

Academic Support

  • Assist with homework help and educational activities. Encourage academic achievement and provide support for members to reach their educational goals. Work closely with staff to monitor and track the academic progress of club members.
  • Safety and
  • Health: Ensure the safety and well-being of club members at all times. Adhere to safety protocols, emergency procedures, and club policies.
  • Documentation and
  • Reporting: Maintain accurate records of attendance, program participation, and incidents. Report any concerns or incidents to the project director.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent. Experience working with children in a structured setting. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Commitment to promoting the values and mission of the Boys and Girls Club. Basic knowledge of child development principles. CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain) Must have experience working with children

Additional Requirements Upon Hire

At least two professional reference. Staff Health Examination Form. Mantoux Test date and results. Physical Examination date. Fingerprinting information and Identogo receipt (required for candidates 18 and older). Two forms of ID, one of which must be a Social Security Number.
