  • SUMMARY: This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the supervision of the Site Coordinator and in conjunction with other staff directors, the Special Education Aide supports teachers in providing instruction and care to students with disabilities. This role helps implement individualized education plans (IEPs), reinforces learning, and supports students’ academic, behavioral, and social-emotional development in an inclusive classroom environment.

  • FUNCTIONS: Assists in providing a well-organized, smoothly functioning class environment. Works with students in their classroom to reinforce skills and concepts introduced by the teacher. Monitors student’s progress. Attends weekly planning sessions with classroom teachers. Assists in completing activities, documents progress and notes comments. Turns in weekly plan sheets to administrators. Provides intervention for individual students. Provides assistance with small group instruction in the classroom. Provides assistance in administering diagnostic and assessment tests. Attends scheduled workshops and training. Responsible for any other duties as assigned by the Site Coordinator.
  • QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS: CPR, First Aid certificate prior to the start of the program. Completion of Child Abuse Prevention training required prior to supervision of children. High School Diploma or GED preferred. Minimum of 48 semester hours of credit from a four-year accredited college and/or university or an associate’s degree from an accredited post-secondary institution, or Passed the Workkeys Test as mandated by the Alabama State Department of Education. Must meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
