  • Summary: An EI Occupational Therapist (OT) administers occupational therapy services to children ages 0 years to 3 years of age (children can potentially qualify for services until the day before their third birthday) within the child and family’s natural environment (including but not limited to their home, day care, and community settings). This is performed in accordance with physician’s orders and the Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP).

Responsibilities

1. Assists the IFSP team to complete an assessment to determine age-equivalent scores in the area(s) of development that are being assessed in accordance with state mandated time guidelines. 2. Helps the IFSP team to develop an IFSP that focuses on the child’s needs and that of the parent(s)/caregiver(s) desire for the child in accordance with state mandated time guidelines. 3. Provides occupational therapy as prescribed by the physician and outlined in the IFSP by the IFSP team. 4. Schedules initial treatment session in accordance with state mandated time guidelines and continues to follow the treatment frequency outlined in the IFSP. 5. Prepares treatment notes and edits treatment notes as needed in a timely manner (within one week of treatment session). 6. Provides billable charges for each treatment session in order for the treatment session to be appropriately billed to the insurance company, the ITC, and/or to the family within a timely manner (within one week of treatment session). 7. Provides treatment to help the child and family improve daily routines and family activities. 8. Participates in IFSP Review Meetings with the team present as needed (not exceeding 6 months from the initial IFSP). 9. Consults with IFSP Team Members (that includes the child’s parents/caregivers) in regards to any changes that needed to be made to the IFSP. There must be written prior notice of an IFSP Review for changes to the IFSP provided to the parents/caregivers by the Service Coordinator (SC) in accordance with state mandated time guidelines. 10. Physician may also be consulted (in writing) if there is a change in the IFSP. 11. Provides detailed instructions (joint plan) for carryover strategies for the family/caregiver to practice until the next visit. 12. Obtains an update at each session on the effectiveness of the joint plan. 13. Reports any changes in the insurance coverage for the child/family to the billing department and/or the EI Intake Coordinator. 14. Participates in an Annual Review (if needed) to determine the child’s continued eligibility to EI. 15. Determines if a child is no longer eligible for EI services and provides an update of the child being discharged from services to the EI Intake Coordinator. 16. Provides information to the IFSP team to determine a rating for 3 areas of development for the Child Outcome Indicators for each child enrolled in Early Intervention under your care. This should be completed at the initial IFSP meeting, at each annual review meeting, and when the child exits the program or is discharged. 17. Provides in-service to other BMT Staff Members as needed. 18. Participates in required Early Intervention and OT continuing education. 19. Provides ongoing supervision as required for Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) including all necessary documentation that is needed for supervision. 20. Submits payroll within a timely manner (within one week of the treatment provided).QualificationsQualifications: 1. Graduate of an OT Curriculum accredited jointly by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation of the American Medical Association and the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) and/or certified by successfully completing the National Certification Examination OR 2. Is eligible for the National Registration Examination of AOTA. 3. Currently licensed in the state(s) in which practicing. 4. Two years’ experience, preferred.
