Job description

  • We are seeking energetic, responsible, and compassionate Overnight Camp Counselors to support a 2-week residential transition program for youth who are blind or visually impaired.
  • This is a hands-on role focused on helping students build independence, confidence, and real-world skills in a supportive camp environment.
  • Camp will take place at Fairleigh Dickinson University during the last two weeks of July 2026.
  • There will be a training week mid July as well.
  • Key Responsibilities: Provide 24/7 supervision and support in a residential setting Lead and assist with programming focused on college readiness, career exploration, and independent living skills Support daily routines, personal care, time management, and organization Reinforce pre-employment skills such as communication, teamwork, and professionalism Assist with assistive technology (braille, screen readers) and adaptive techniques Supervise overnight routines, activities, and dorm life Facilitate community-based experiences and social skill development Ensure a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for all participants Respond to medical, behavioral, or crisis situations as needed Collaborate with staff and document student progress Current college students or recent graduates preferred (especially in Special Education, TVI, Psychology, or Social Work) Experience working with blind/visually impaired youth strongly preferred Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented residential setting Preference for candidates age 21+ Must be able to pass a state and federal criminal background check Must posses a valid NJ Driver's license This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful impact while helping young adults prepare for independence and future success.
  • Counselors will receive $4000 upon completing the exciting 2-week camp session.
