Position Summary
The School-Based Therapist provides mental health and/or substance use services, education, consultation, and prevention support to students in school settings. This role includes assessment, treatment, and crisis intervention services to support student well-being and success.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide direct mental health and/or substance use services, including but not limited to intake assessments, individual, family, and group counseling, crisis intervention, and prevention services. Develop and maintain treatment plans, treatment plan updates, psychotherapy notes, and all required clinical documentation in a timely manner. Attend and actively participate in staff meetings, clinical consultations, IEP meetings, and other meetings as required. Collect and track mental health/substance use data and student outcomes to support program evaluation and effectiveness. Identify and coordinate appropriate family and community resources for treatment, support, and/or placement. Provide crisis assessment and intervention services, including availability outside of standard business hours when required. Support student reintegration following hospitalization or residential placement, including development and implementation of re-entry plans. Maintain knowledge of school disciplinary policies, at-risk student indicators, referral processes, and special education regulations; assist with related processes as appropriate. Foster effective communication and collaboration with students, families, school personnel, and community partners. Conduct family-based interventions as clinically indicated; encourage caregiver involvement in treatment planning. Assist families in accessing and utilizing community resources and coordinate care among providers to support treatment goals. Maintain flexibility to work adjusted schedules, including evenings and weekends, as needed to meet client needs. Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and current auto insurance (travel required). Adherence to professional ethics, confidentiality standards, and all applicable regulations. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Education and experience
Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, or a related human services field. Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience preferred. Must hold or be eligible to obtain Nebraska licensure (LMHP, LCSW, LIMHP, or LICSW).
