At the YMCA, we do too. Power Scholars Academy (PSA) is a summer learning loss prevention and academic intervention program. We support scholars from all over the Denver Metropolitan area in developing their academic foundation, as well as social emotional and critical thinking skills. Over the summer, scholars spend 3 hours per day, 4 days per week with credentialed teachers reviewing math and literacy concepts to help reach grade level and prepare them for the year ahead. POSITION SUMMARY This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. PSA Teacher serves as a member of the Youth Development team and will deliver professional customer service and relationship building skills by upholding Y philosophies. This role will closely work with Site Supervisor, teachers, and school personal to support and enhance students Power Scholars experience. Teachers will create a welcoming environment for academic growth by ensuring a safe learning environment and be available as support where needed between the classroom cohorts, from attendance to brain breaks. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Support the classroom teacher(s) in the implementation of curriculum. Support the development and delivery of relevant, engaging, and rigorous lessons. Work with teachers to identify scholar needs and develop instructional plans and practices to best support scholars. Supervise scholars during classroom transitions as well as during lunch, snack, brain break, etc. Support classroom and behavior management consistently to develop a safe and productive learning environment. Ensure the academic and social development of scholars throughout the course of the program. Any other duties as assigned.   • RESPONSIBILITIES: None WORK ENVIRONMENT Work is performed in classrooms, learning spaces, recreation areas, and occasionally outdoor settings as part of summer learning and enrichment programming. Regular interaction with school-age participants, families, volunteers, school partners, and YMCA staff in a collaborative, youth-centered environment. Frequent transitions between instructional, enrichment, and supervised activity settings throughout the day. Moderate to high noise levels typical of youth programming and active learning environments. Occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including heat, sunlight/UV exposure, and wet or inclement weather during outdoor activities or field experiences. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position. Ability to remain actively engaged with students throughout the program day, including regularly sitting, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, and moving between program areas.
