Salary: $57,800 annually

Job Type: Full-time

196 day per year working position/8 hour days M-F.

About Us

  • Located on the campus of Woodridge Interventions in Woodridge, Illinois, the Meridian School is a public/private partnership between Naperville (IL) School District 203 and Abraxas Youth & Family Services.
  • Meridian is designed for delivering education services to Naperville District 203 students who are determined to need Special Education services or an Alternative Learning Opportunity Program (ALOP).
  • Our Meridian programs focus on four integral areas of service: Education, Behavior Modification, Social Skills Acquisition (Emotional Support), and Re-Integration/Transition.
  • Our approach is to tailor services to best meet the targeted outcomes desired.
  • To that end, the Bridge creates an individualized approach and system of services that best meet the specific needs of our students.

Due to the needs of students at the Meridian School, Special Education Teacher is needed. A majority of the students attending Meridian have academic challenges and deficiencies in credit attainment. The Special Education Teacher would help provide individualized academic and social/emotional support to students through in classroom and pull out opportunities where needed.

Essential duties and responsibilities

  • Develop goals and objectives for multi-graded classes and variety of handicap conditions. Implement Individual Education Programs(IEP) for all students.
  • Provide direct instruction and services to students.
  • Monitor student progress as it relates to established IEP’s.
  • Work as a member of a trans-disciplinary team for planning and implementing data based instructional programs. Develop transition plans to move students to targeted integrated or community based activities, and/or transition to adult lifestyles.
  • Provide a thorough assessment and diagnostic process for an individualized instructional program.
  • Provide information and support to parents and families when appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate reports, records and files on individual students.
  • Assist in identifying, developing and implementing appropriate use of resources for instructional application.
  • Insure a safe and healthful environment for all students in programs adhering to all applicable laws, codes and district policies.
  • Supports the Cornell Abraxas’ philosophy and mission and promotes the Seven Key Principles of care.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

  • Broad background, extensive knowledge and practical application of principals, practices, methods and strategies applicable to students with serious emotional disturbances or severe handicaps.
  • Strong assessment skills appropriate for severely handicapped individuals.
