Job description
Garfield Park Academy is seeking a motivated full-time (10-month position) Special Education High School Teacher in a small, departmental classroom. Here, classroom teachers are valued members of our special education teams that include teachers, aides, social workers, and therapists. Together, they implement the evidence-based Teaching Family Model to support meaningful social and academic learning and healthy decision-making among students with behavioral challenges and learning issues. Position requirements include
New Jersey Teacher Certification in English, Math, Science, and/or History. New Jersey Teacher of Students with Disabilities (TOSD) certification is preferred. One year of teaching experience is preferred. At least one year of Special Education teaching is preferred.
Garfield Park Academy instructional staff are thoroughly trained and mentored in the Teaching Family Model. High School Teacher responsibilities include: providing individualized teaching strategies in accordance with each student's IEP and individual goals and objectives; implementing modifications and accommodations in the classroom and in testing/assessment situations; collecting and interpreting data to teach responsively; administering periodic assessments to determine present levels of performance; participating in school staff meetings and parent meetings and clearly and consistently communicating and collaborating with educational team members, school leaders and parents/guardians.
