Job description

Job Summary Bay Farm Montessori Academy is seeking a part-time Physical Education Teacher for the 2026–2027 school year to work with preschool through 6th grade students - 20 hours per week including preparation and planning time. This position is responsible for creating an environment where students aged 3 through 12 develop lifelong enjoyment of physical activity and healthy movement habits.

Responsibilities

also include: Teach physical education classes to preschool through 6th grade students. Develop and implement engaging physical education lessons that are developmentally appropriate; promote gross motor development, teamwork, and healthy lifestyles - while prioritizing student safety and injury prevention. Designs age-appropriate activities that develop aerobic capacity, muscular strength, flexibility, and balance through engaging games and movement experiences. Organize and supervise a program for our oldest students, which may include partnering with external organizations (tennis clubs, gyms etc.) Promote sportsmanship, discipline, and positive character development through physical education. Maintain proper supervision of students at all times. Track and record student participation and progress in physical education programs. Communicate with parents regarding student participation and progress when necessary. Assist with the organization of athletic events, and activities, in collaboration with the Associate Director of Auxiliary programs. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Skills and Competencies: Required: Bachelor’s degree in physical education, or a related field or State certification in Physical Education. Experience teaching physical education or coaching in a school or youth sports environment. Ability to motivate students and encourage active participation in physical activities. Ability to adapt activities for developmental appropriateness and individual student needs Strong classroom and group management skills. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Valid Massachusetts driver’s license with the ability to drive a school van for student transportation. First Aid and CPR certification.

Preferred

3+ years of teaching or coaching experience. Experience working with elementary school students. Knowledge of youth fitness assessment and standards
