Summary Description

  • BB&N is seeking a Varsity Basketball Associate Coach for the boys’ team.
  • This is a stipend, part-time position that is not eligible for employee benefits during the winter season.
  • This job may also be paired with our anticipated and open positions.
  • Responsibilities include supporting all aspects of team organization, including practice planning and administrative tasks.
  • The associate head coach will provide examples of fair play, team building, character building, and respect for the players.
  • The BB&N Athletic Department expects its coaches to operate within the athletic philosophy of BB&N and adhere to the BB&N coaches’ manual as well as the Independent School League (ISL) and the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) rules and guidelines.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

Key functions for this position include, but are not limited to

  • Practice planning and game oversight support, including teaching skill techniques and helping athletes prepare for competitive events.
  • Bolstering specified areas that the coaching staff is focused on for the players and program.
  • Working collaboratively with the head coach on all aspects of the program and the support of the student athletes.
  • Mentoring and instructing players in skill development, character development, and teamwork.
  • Supporting Communication with parents/guardians relevant information regarding games, practices, and other team commitments.
  • Commitment to the support and development of those students with an ability and/or desire to compete at the collegiate level is important for varsity programs.
  • Attend all BB&N practices, at home and away matches, and other related athletics functions.
  • Model positive behavior, maintain a supportive environment, and exhibit a high level of professionalism.
  • Work collaboratively with other coaches, parents, and community members.
  • Seek assistance should emergencies arise.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements, Skills, and Competencies

The ideal candidate is approachable, knowledgeable, collaborative, and eager to be an active member of a dynamic athletic and learning community. Bachelor’s degree preferred

In addition, the ideal candidate will demonstrate

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire athletes to perform at their highest level, with a commitment to academic success and character development.
  • Demonstrate a passion for their sport and for working with middle and high school-aged students.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to an inclusive and equitable approach to all student athletes.
  • Effective and responsible communication with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Demonstrate high standards of professional conduct with strong interpersonal skills to handle disputes, challenges, or conflicts that may arise among athletes.
  • Adjust coaching methods based on individual athletes' needs, team dynamics, and changing circumstances.
  • Upper School Coaching Schedule
  • All Coaches Meeting on Monday, August 31, 2026, and Winter Coaches Meeting (Date/Time TBD).
  • The season runs from November 2026 through March 2027.
  • Weekly practices occur during the time frame of 3:45 pm to 7:30 pm, with occasional morning practice. Games usually occur on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and sometimes on off days as well.
  • Post-season play occurs in March.
