General Summary
Instructs US and MS school students in physical activities and health education while providing maximum physical activity time within the class period. Possesses energy and enthusiasm to maximize each student’s potential through the acquisition of knowledge, skills, and attitudes that will transfer into a healthy lifestyle.
Essential
Duties and Responsibilities
- Creates a learning environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.
- Plans instruction consistent with the School’s approved curriculum for Physical Education (PE) and Health.
- Creates a supportive learning environment for all students that encourages social and physical interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation.
- Plans a flexible program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
- Prepares for classes as assigned and shows evidence of lesson preparation upon request.
- Effectively organizes space, equipment, and students.
- Provides adequate equipment that allows students to be active.
- Establishes appropriate plans for substitute teachers.
- Develops appropriate formative and summative assessments to guide instruction and assess student learning with specific, constructive feedback.
- Provides regular feedback to students and parents, and uses assessment data to make instructional decisions.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve an optimal learning atmosphere.
- Promotes student honesty, integrity, and good sportsmanship.
- Assists in locker room supervision and maintains PE equipment and facilities.
- Serves as an advisor for Upper School students
- Attends and participates in professional meetings, including collaborative teams, division meetings, and professional development.
- Works collaboratively with administrators to strengthen the PE program.
- Participates and helps coordinate special events.
- Initiates, implements, and coordinates a variety of program components which will further enrich the School’s PE program.
- Completes other tasks as deemed appropriate by the US and MS Administration.

Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education or Health Sciences
- 3-5 years teaching experience in both Physical Education and Health at the MS and/or US level preferred
- Experience in educational technology
