Description Position Overview We are seeking a patient, dependable, and supportive Independent Living Services (ILS) Instructor to provide afternoon services for an individual with Autism and a Psychiatric Disorder. This role focuses on building independence, improving daily living skills, and increasing meaningful participation in the community. The ideal candidate is encouraging, adaptable, and comfortable providing structured support, reminders, and hands-on guidance when needed. Primary Goals of Support Improve personal care and hygiene routines Support home management and household organization Develop financial literacy and basic budgeting skills Encourage community engagement and participation in activities Key Responsibilities Personal Care Support daily personal hygiene routines and self-care tasks Provide reminders, encouragement, and positive reinforcement Promote independence while offering assistance as needed Home Management Assist with maintaining a clean and organized living space Help establish and follow simple home management routines Break tasks into manageable steps to improve consistency Financial Literacy Support basic budgeting, money management, and tracking expenses Assist with understanding financial concepts using clear, step-by-step instruction Adapt teaching methods as needed, including paper-based tools if digital platforms are challenging Community Engagement Encourage participation in community activities, events, or appointments Assist with planning outings and accessing community resources Provide support with scheduling and transportation coordination as appropriate Identified Challenges to Address Consistency & Motivation Danielle may struggle with maintaining motivation and consistency, particularly with personal care and home management Staff may need to provide frequent encouragement, reminders, and reinforcement Limited Staff Availability Staffing shortages may impact consistency of services, requiring flexibility and clear communication Transportation & Distance Challenges Distance from community resources may limit access to activities or appointments Reliance on public transportation or staff for rides may create scheduling challenges Financial Literacy Learning Curve Budgeting and financial management skills may require extended learning time Staff may need to provide extra hands-on support and simplified instruction Environmental Factors A less structured living environment may impact follow-through with hygiene and home routines Technology Barriers Difficulty using budgeting apps or digital tools may require alternative, paper-based methods Limited Community Resources Fewer local programs or accessible community spaces may make community engagement more challenging Work Environment One-on-one support in the home and community Afternoon-only schedule (12:00 PM – 3:00 PM) Structured, supportive, and goal-oriented setting
Requirements
Required Qualifications & Compliance Experience supporting individuals with autism and/or psychiatric disorders preferred Patient, reliable, and supportive communication style Strong organizational and problem-solving skills Ability to provide structure, encouragement, and hands-on assistance Two forms of valid identification Current CPR and First Aid certification Live Scan fingerprint clearance Current TB test clearance
