  • Shift: DayThe Occupational Therapist (OT) provides comprehensive, educationally relevant therapy to students on their caseload with multiple disabilities focusing on enhancing functional performance, sensory integration, and access to educational curriculum. The OT collaborates with classroom staff and other related services staff to deliver an educational and therapeutic program that enables each student to reach their full potential.

Duties and Responsibilities

Evaluate student’s fine motor, sensory, perceptual, and self-care skills, and implement therapy to improve educational participation. Proactively implement school-based therapy to enhance students’ ability to access and make progress in their educational program including, but not limited to, provisions of adaptations to materials and methods required to facilitate writing, perform self-care tasks, and participate in leisure activities. Treat and instruct students in perceptual and motor activities, manipulative and ambulation skills, proper posturing, and activities of daily living to enhance their ability to access their educational program. Utilize creative and manual arts, recreational, educational, and social activities and various therapeutic tests, games, and equipment to inform and effect treatment. Instruct students in the use of common and specialized materials employed in daily activities including, but not limited to, eating utensils, dressing aids, and educational tools. Plan, adapt and design special equipment for classroom use such as weighted cuffs, clipboards and adjustable furniture. Demonstrate special dressing, feeding and bathing skills, equipment and techniques for use in the home. Plan appropriate treatment programs, coordinate therapeutic services with activities in the classroom and in the home. Train and retrain students through standard therapeutic procedures observing and recording their mental and physical responses. Adjust length, frequency, and intensity of treatments to the needs of the individual student. Ensure that each student receiving services or being evaluated to receive services has the necessary evaluation records in their school record as appropriate. Complete progress reports, including the development of therapeutic goals and the student's progress toward goals. Consult with teachers, parents, paraprofessionals, community agencies, and others as appropriate. Alert school staff to necessary procedures, special precautions, and safety measures applicable to individual students and the student population. Encourage parents to have students utilize skills acquired in therapy. Participate in and support Individualized Education Plan (IEP) process by drafting individualized, educationally relevant goals and collecting data on progress. Collaborate with classroom staff to adapt, design, and instruct on special equipment, seating, and classroom tools to assist students with physical and/or sensory challenges. Maintain therapy notes, complete progress reports, and ensure compliance with state and agency policies. Consult with teachers, multidisciplinary team members, and parents/caregivers to implement strategies and support students. Performs other duties as assigned Qualifications Valid Pennsylvania Occupational Therapist (OTR/L) license required. Two (2) years’ experience in a school-based or pediatric setting. Two (2) years’ experience working with individuals living with multiple disabilities, including a strong understanding of the safety and communication support required for individuals with physical disabilities. Demonstrated knowledge of the principles, practices, methods, materials, and techniques used in Occupational Therapy. Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment and effectively prioritize tasks. Demonstrated strong attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team. Demonstrated strong time management and organizational skills. Demonstrated excellent judgment with the ability to independently solve problems and make decisions with little or no need for direct supervision. Demonstrated ability to anticipate changes and/or identify issues and take appropriate and effective actions. Excellent customer interaction, collaboration, and written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated intermediate experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint and PowerPoint. Experience using electronic management/electronic records systems preferred. Must be able to perform CPR, First Aid, and crisis intervention using agency-trained protocols. Must pass and maintain CADES driving and securement and observer certifications. Must possess a current, valid driver's license in the state of residence, have a minimum of three (3) years of driving experience within the United States, and have an acceptable driving record, which will be assessed through a review of the Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) record
