SUMMARY The Security Officer (SO) is a full-time position responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, staff, and visitors at the school. The SO reports to the Security Manager. The typical work hours for this position are 2:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
GUIDING PRINCIPLES ● Supports and always advances the Mission and Values of AIS inside and outside of the organization. ● Supports student learning and achievement through cooperative effort and best practices. ● Supports and promotes the 3K-12 curriculum based on the IB goals and mission. ● Supports and advances international education. ● Supports and advances all policies of AIS, especially the Open Communication and Community Principles.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The SO’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: ● Monitor and control access to the school, ensuring only authorized individuals enter the campus. ● Patrol school grounds and remain alert to suspicious activity, responding appropriately to incidents or emergencies. ● Maintain a visible, approachable presence while interacting professionally with students, staff, and visitors. ● Assist with traffic control during carline. ● Support emergency preparedness efforts, including drills and response procedures. ● Identify and report safety hazards or concerns to appropriate personnel. ● Respond to medical emergencies as needed. ● Ensure school property is secure, including locking doors and windows. ● Report any security breaches, damages, or theft. ● Conduct routine checks of buildings and access points. ● Complete daily activity logs and detailed incident reports. ● Maintain accurate and timely records of all actions taken. ● Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members. ● 5–10 years of security experience in an armed capacity preferred. ● Valid CCW (where applicable and permitted by law/policy). ● Ability to remain calm and function effectively in high-stress situations. ● Strong decision-making skills, discretion, and sound judgment. ● Ability to work independently and take initiative. ● Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. ● High level of attention to detail and accuracy in reporting. ● Proficient in radio communication and basic computer systems. ● Awareness of cultural sensitivities and the ability to interact respectfully with a diverse community. ● Willingness to handle difficult or uncomfortable situations when required. ● Ability to recognize when to escalate issues beyond one’s authority. ● Can pass a background check.
SKILLS AND RESPONSIBILITIES ● Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment. ● Prior security, law enforcement, or military experience is preferred. ● Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills. ● General knowledge of Apple, PC, and Microsoft Office applications ● Ability to work independently and as a member of a team with minimal supervision. ● Fluency in a second language in addition to English is preferred. ● Ability to remain calm and composed under pressure and to respond quickly and effectively in emergency situations. ● Must be physically able to patrol the school grounds, respond to emergencies, stand for extended periods, and climb stairs. ● Must possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
