  • POSITION OVERVIEW The role of the Behavioral Interventionist is to provide individualized and small group support for student educational success, including behavior, social-emotional coaching/management, and goal setting.
  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other school staff to develop and implement individualized and small-group behavior interventions for students.
  • Monitor student progress and adjust behavior interventions as needed.
  • Engage and empower parents by attending school events, parent-teacher conferences, and/or providing families with techniques that support positive behavior development.
  • The Behavioral Interventionist identifies and connects students, families, and staff to community resources, as needed.
  • Maintain confidential and accurate student records and reports, including assessments, interventions, progress notes, and referrals.
  • Provide professional development and coaching to staff that targets research-based strategies which may include: defining and measuring behavior; understanding principles of reinforcement; teaching new behavior; de-escalation, identifying antecedents/consequences, and appropriate implementation of behavior interventions.
  • Conduct classroom observations of teachers and students to obtain anecdotal data that will allow the development of strategies to address behaviors, and classroom management, or observe the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Participate in special education, section 504, and grade-level CTM meetings, as appropriate.
  • Conduct threat assessments as needed and consult with school personnel and community resources, such as crisis response and/or DCS to provide alternative support systems.
  • Stay up-to-date with current research and best practices in the field of behavior intervention and participate in professional development opportunities as needed.

  • Identify potential causes of chronic absenteeism and students who are at risk for or are chronically absent.
  • Partner with families to improve attendance by connecting them to appropriate support both within the school and the community.
  • Encourage students to uphold our values and model mature behavior and good character in the classroom, on the school campus, and throughout their lives.
  • Respond to all internal and external customers, as it relates to the position, in a prompt, efficient, friendly and patient manner.
  • Maintain courteous relationships with students, staff, parents, and community, treating all with respect.
  • The Behavioral Interventionist is an active role requiring lifting, sitting, standing, moving throughout the campus and traveling to other campuses as required.
  • Participating in events outside of normal hours.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS THAT SET YOU UP FOR SUCCESS Bachelor’s or higher degree in Education, Psychology or related field.
  • The incumbent in this position will be required to pass a criminal history background check.
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS THAT SET YOU UP FOR SUCCESS Master’s degree.
  • Teaching experience.
  • PBIS, RBT, BCBA, and/or BCaBA certification.
  • Related certification or equivalent experience designing behavior interventions may replace certification.

  • As funds allow, this is a Title I federally-funded position with responsibilities that align to federal requirements.
  • The continuation of this position will be revisited annually based on funding.
