POSITION SUMMARY AND RESPONSIBILITIES The School Nurse plays a critical role in ensuring the health and wellness of our student population. As a key member of our support team, the school nurse provides high-quality, compassionate care, promotes a healthy school environment, and acts as a health advocate and resource for students, staff, and families. The ideal candidate will be experienced, proactive, and committed to fostering a safe, nurturing learning environment through a strong understanding of pediatric healthcare, school nursing protocols, and culturally responsive practices. Key Responsibilities: Provide direct nursing care to students and staff, including administering medications, treating injuries, and managing acute and chronic health conditions. Maintain accurate and confidential student health records in compliance with state and federal regulations. Conduct health screenings (vision, hearing, scoliosis, BMI, etc.) and follow up as needed. Develop and implement Individualized Healthcare Plans (IHPs) and Emergency Care Plans (ECPs) for students with medical needs. Collaborate with educators, administrators, and parents to support students' physical and emotional well-being. Serve as a liaison between the school, families, and healthcare providers. Monitor for signs of illness or contagious conditions and implement infection control measures as needed. Promote wellness through health education initiatives and school-wide health campaigns. Prepare reports for school and state health officials. Respond to emergencies and manage crisis situations calmly and effectively. Maintain a well-stocked, organized, and sanitary health office environment. Participate in school-wide events, field trips, and community outreach activities as appropriate. Additional Qualifications: Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to engage with diverse student populations and their families. Excellent organizational and time-management abilities. Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative school team. Maintain professional confidentiality and uphold ethical standards in all health-related matters. Familiarity with school health regulations and procedures, including immunization requirements and communicable disease management. Ability to use electronic health record systems and basic educational technologies. Salaries are determined using an equitable compensation scale that accounts for years of experience and levels of attained education.
