School Age Teacher The School Age Teacher consistently provides developmentally appropriate and child centered activities; serves as a positive role model for children. Functions as a Team Leader, working with teacher assistants and volunteers in the classroom to ensure high quality education for all students. The School Age Teacher also is responsible for classroom, center and equipment cleanliness in order to meet nurturing and physical care responsibilities of the children. EDUCATION Vocational/Technical Degree in Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) or in lieu of a Technical College Diploma in ECCE, a Technical College Certificate in an ECCE concentration and 2 additional years experience in a child care setting (Required) EXPERIENCE 1 or more years of experience in teaching in a group environment with young children (Required) CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES Satisfactory Criminal Records Check determination (Cogent) (Required) Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) within 1 year of hire (Required) ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS PROVIDES ASSISTANCE IN THE DAY TO DAY OPERATIONS OF THE CENTER.: Provides direct assistance to teachers and staff as needed. Supports the teaching staff, center philosophy, program and the curriculum, assisting with all child care and educational activities. Uses appropriate teaching techniques at all times. Gives children guidance for the proper care and use of supplies, learning materials, and equipment. Understands and knows child's family. Helps with general housekeeping tasks. PROMOTES A POSITIVE ENVIRONMENT.: Promotes a positive environment for children, families and staff. Treats all children, families and staff members with dignity and respect and allow for individual differences. Maintain appropriate communication with staff, children and families at all times. Maintain an open, warm and very professional relationship with all families. PROVIDE DEVELOPMENTALLY APPROPRIATE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM: Ensures developmentally appropriate educational program in a safe clean environment. Ensures a developmentally appropriate program is carried out on a daily basis throughout the Center both inside the classrooms, outside on the playgrounds and on field trips. Responsive to children. Understands and respects the various stages and individual uniqueness of the child. Ensures children are under adult supervision at all times. Safety of children is ensured. Ensures a safe environment exists for all children and adults in the classroom. Ensures clean, well equipped, appropriately decorated classrooms are maintained at all times. SUPERVISION OF TEACHING STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS: Supervises, mentors, and coaches teachers, teacher aides, assistant teachers, volunteers and interns to ensure adequate preparation to deliver high quality service to participants. Supervises teachers and assistant teachers to ensure desired quality in all areas of the program. Coaches and mentors teachers, teacher aides and assistant teachers, volunteers and student Interns. PREPARES LESSON PLANS.: Prepares weekly lesson plans for the classroom. Prepares lesson plans for the classroom which correlate with the Georgia Early Learning Standards. (GELDS) Submits lesson plans to supervisor for approval. MAINTAINS RECORDS.: Maintains records on children and families. Completes and maintains child developmental checks documentation. Completes accident reports. ADDITIONAL DUTIES Adheres to the hospital and departmental attendance and punctuality guidelines. Performs all job responsibilities in alignment with the core values, mission and vision of the organization. Performs other duties as required and completes all job functions as per departmental policies and procedures. Maintains current Knowledge in present areas of responsibility to include any specialty certification requirements (i.e., self-education, attends ongoing educational programs). Attends staff meetings and completes mandatory in-services and requirements and competency evaluations on time. Demonstrates competency at all levels in providing care to all patients based on age, sex, weight, and demonstrated needs. For non-clinical areas, has attended training and demonstrates usage of age- specific customer service skills.
