Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent. Knowledge of Security/Law Enforcement procedures preferred. Successful completion of safety/security training or coursework preferred. Working knowledge of, and ability to enforce security operations and safety practices within a school environment. NATURE OF THE POSITION: Duties include patrolling and observing the activities of persons in and around school premises and grounds. Supports and assists in creating a positive school culture for students, staff, parents and the community. RESPONSIBILITIES OF POSITION: Works closely with the principal to establish and maintain a strong culture of academic excellence and disciplined behavior among students. Frequently patrols school premises and grounds to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure security of doors, windows, and gates. Make assessments of situations, warn persons of rule infractions or violations when necessary; seek assistance and take appropriate action to resolve situations. Monitor and authorize entrance and departure of students, employees, visitors, and other persons to guard against theft and maintain security of premises. Monitor students in gym, cafeteria, recess, and hallways throughout the school day including morning arrival and afternoon dismissal. Write reports of daily activities and irregularities, such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences. Call police, fire and emergency department personnel in cases of disturbance or emergency. Circulate amongst visitors, students, and employees to preserve order and protect property. Answer alarms and investigate disturbances as directed. Oversee key and fob distribution. Conduct iCHAT background checks. Escort staff, visitors and students to parking lot areas as requested. Other related duties as assigned. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Satisfactory criminal background check. Uses personal vehicle during course of work shift to patrol the school grounds and parking areas.
