For over fifty years, New York Junior Tennis & Learning (NYJTL) has honored its founder Arthur Ashe’s legacy by celebrating the diversity of children, encouraging them to reach their highest potential through free tennis and academic programs. NYJTL is the largest provider of youth tennis and education programs in the nation, providing services in 100 unique sites across all five boroughs while reaching nearly 90,000 kids. In addition, NYJTL designed, funded (with NYC), built and operates the Cary Leeds Center for Tennis & Learning in the South Bronx. All NYJTL community tennis and after school programs are offered at no cost to its participants.

Position Summary
NYJTL is seeking a compassionate and skilled Part-Time Social Worker to support student emotional wellness in our afterschool programs. This is an on-site role assigned to one afterschool site, Monday through Thursday from 2:00-6:00 PM, for a total of 16 hours per week.
This role focuses on student mental health and staff support, nurturing a positive, trauma-informed afterschool culture. The Part-Time Social Worker will collaborate closely with the Afterschool Site Director or Community School Director, who will serve as the direct on-site supervisor. The Social Work Manager will provide weekly reflective supervision, ongoing training, and support around social work practice.
The Part-Time Social Worker will help implement trauma-informed and restorative practices, provide brief emotional and behavioral support to students, connect students and families to outside referrals when appropriate, and lead small group sessions aligned with the assigned SEL curriculum.
- Key Responsibilities
- Provide short-term emotional and behavioral support to students during afterschool hours
- Facilitate small groups focused on topics such as emotional regulation, peer relationships, and stress management
- Collaborate with Program Directors to identify student needs and support trauma-informed programming
- Coach afterschool staff on best practices in restorative and trauma-informed approaches
- Coordinate with caregivers and school-day personnel to ensure continuity of support
- Support the implementation and analysis of pre- and post-program surveys to assess SEL growth
- Participate in weekly reflective supervision to deepen practice and skill-building
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Work from an accredited school required
- 1–2 years of experience working with children or youth in educational, afterschool, or community-based settings
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care, social-emotional learning, and restorative practices
- Strong collaboration, communication, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills
- Experience in connecting individuals to appropriate community-based resources
- Cultural humility and comfort working with students and families from diverse backgrounds
- Availability to work on-site Monday through Thursday from 2:00–6:00 PM
- Preferred
- LMSW or willingness to obtain LMSW within 6 months of hire
- Bilingual in Spanish or another language commonly spoken in NYC schools
- Familiarity with DYCD afterschool programming
Pay Rate
$36.50 – $41.50 per hour, depending on degree and licensure
