Viewpoint School is currently seeking a Learning Specialist in the Primary and Lower Schools. The Learning Specialist in the Primary and Lower Schools coordinates and implements efforts in student academic support.

Position Requirements

  • Expert in phonics instruction, reading instruction, intervention programs, math support, and executive functioning strategies
  • Differentiates instruction as needed (in content, process, product, and environment)
  • Assists teachers in classrooms to help adjust, modify, and enrich curricular approaches and improve pedagogy
  • Seeks out new and innovative curricula, texts, and learning strategies for possible implementation for students who need support
  • Remains current with accepted and appropriate instructional theory, practice and research, including engaging in regular and strategic professional development to advance the role of the Learning Specialist (including local and national seminars, webinars, and conferences)
  • Assesses and documents student progress and achievement; assesses and analyzes student strengths and needs; designs and implements appropriate instruction to facilitate learning and growth; manages documentation of student needs and disseminates recommendations (learning profiles) to faculty
  • Assists students and teachers with various organizational strategies, study skills, alleviation of anxiety, and executive functioning strategies
  • Supports students’ transitions into next grade and division
  • Attends meetings for all students with learning profiles
  • Works in conjunction with Divisional Directors to recommend tutors, neuropsychologists, educational therapists, reading specialists, etc
  • Communicates with outside educational specialists attending to students’ needs
  • Establishes and maintains frequent communication with teachers and administrators about students’ academic needs
  • Communicates with teachers, as necessary, regarding the meeting of student accommodations in the classroom and what is required of students for specific assignments and/or projects
  • Assists with admissions screenings and reviews files
  • Organizes standardized testing accommodations for students with learning profiles
  • Attends and participates in faculty meetings, committee meetings, school functions, and professional development activities during and after school hours as needed, appropriate, and assigned

Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Required

  • Candidate must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field and a minimum of three years of experience in a related role within a school
  • Candidate must possess strong communication skills and the ability to work professionally with all members of a school community
  • Candidate must adhere to strict student confidentiality
  • Candidate must possess experience in reading and interpreting Neuropsychological Evaluations and other forms of diagnostic documentation
  • Candidate must be able to communicate rapidly and effectively with all constituents in a school environment
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, and strong discernment and decision making aptitude are essential to be successful in this position
  • Must have organizational and time management skills
  • Must demonstrate competency with basic word processing, spreadsheet, database, internet and computer functions
  • Ability to use basic office equipment
  • High level of professionalism and ethical standards; upholds the philosophy, principles, policies, and procedures of the School
  • In addition to the position described above, you agree to perform other duties and responsibilities as shall be assigned by Head of School or other supervisor

Compensation

Anticipated compensation is $110,000 - $120,000 depending on experience
