I am applying for the Mathematics Teacher position at Palo Verde High School. I have spent seven years teaching Algebra I through AP Calculus AB, and I am writing because your posting asks for someone who can cover both ends of that range in the same timetable.
Two years ago I built an intervention block for students repeating Algebra I. Rather than reteaching the course, it worked backwards from the specific standards each student had failed, so a student weak only on linear systems spent the block there instead of sitting through everything again.
Your posting mentions that the calculus section has not run for two years for want of a certified teacher. I have taught it from an endorsed syllabus for three, and restarting a lapsed course is a different job from inheriting a healthy one — it means rebuilding the pipeline underneath it as well.
I hold a Texas Standard Teaching Certificate in Mathematics for grades seven through twelve, and my AP Calculus AB syllabus is College Board endorsed.
I would welcome a conversation about how the department is currently staffing the upper courses, and what rebuilding the calculus pipeline would involve. I am glad to meet at any time that suits.
