Dear Dr. Marchetti,
I am applying for the School Psychologist position at Elk River Public Schools. I currently cover an elementary, a middle and an alternative program in one district, and your posting's emphasis on multi-tiered support consultation is the reason this role interests me.
I complete roughly sixty initial and re-evaluations a year and run the multi-tiered support consultation for two of my three buildings. The consultation work is what has reduced inappropriate referrals — the evaluations I do not have to complete are as much a result as the ones I do.
Elk River's posting describes a referral rate the district considers too high. Bringing that down is consultation work rather than assessment work, and it is slow — it took two years in my current buildings before the pattern shifted.
I hold a Minnesota School Psychologist License and am a Nationally Certified School Psychologist.
I would welcome a conversation about how the three buildings would be divided and what the current referral pathway looks like. I am available to meet whenever suits you.
Sincerely, Reuben Castellanos
