Dear Ms. Trombley,
I am applying for the Social Studies Teacher position at Copper Hills High School. I teach government, economics and world history, and I am writing because your posting lists economics as a course you are currently unable to offer.
I hold the economics endorsement that most of my department does not, which is the only reason the course runs at my current school. I took it on in my second year when the previous teacher retired and the section was about to be cut.
A course that has not run for a year is harder to restart than one that has always been offered, because students stop planning for it. Copper Hills is far enough into that gap that rebuilding enrollment will matter as much as teaching the class.
I hold an Arizona Standard Secondary Certificate in History for grades six through twelve, with an Economics subject endorsement.
I would like to talk about how you are thinking about restarting economics, and whether it would sit in the same timetable block as government. I am glad to meet at any time.
Sincerely, Marcus Oyelaran
