About the role

The Dual Language Instructional Assistant provides instructional support in Spanish immersion classrooms, leading small groups and collaborating with the lead teacher on lesson plans. They also manage classroom behavior and promote the dual language program within the community.

Description This is a part-time, remote position. While the employee will not be based in an office, the role requires regular on-site visits to schools and travel within the assigned region.

Schedule: Part-time (25–40 hours/week during the school year, depending on company needs)

Our goal is to help students build essential bilingual fluency, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.

Your Role and Responsibilities As a Dual Language Instructional Assistant (DLIA), your main duty is to provide instructional support for students and teachers in our Dual Language Spanish immersion classrooms. The DLIA may serve in one or more Participate Learning dual language program schools within the same geographic area based on need for coverage or support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Student
  • Instruction: Empower students by leading small groups in Spanish across different subjects, including literacy rotations, to improve their language skills and academic abilities.
  • Collaborative
  • Planning: Work with the lead teacher to create lesson plans, instruct students individually and in groups, and prepare classroom materials like photocopying and laminating.
  • Classroom
  • Management: Help establish and enforce rules to maintain an orderly classroom environment.
  • Taking the
  • Lead: In the absence of the lead teacher, you'll be expected to take over the primary instructional role. This includes leading instruction in the target language, completing all daily tasks, and maintaining clear notes on student performance.
  • Language
  • Promotion: Promote cross-cultural activities and the dual language immersion program within the school and the wider community. Serve as a fluent Spanish-speaking role model for students, consistently using the target language to maximize their learning.
  • School-wide
  • Support: Support the school's and Participate Learning's policies and procedures across multiple dual language classrooms.

Requirements

What You'll Need to Succeed Language Skills:Advanced proficiency in Spanish (speakin, listening, reading, and writing) is required. Intermediate to high English proficiency Education: An associate or bachelor's degree is preferred, with a degree in education being a plus.

Experience

Prior experience working with children (K-5) in a teaching, tutoring, or childcare setting is required. Essential Qualifications You must be located in Raleigh, NC, or the greater Triangle metro area and willing to travel within the state. You must have a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and the ability to travel between schools. You must be authorized to work in the U.S. and successfully complete all required training and evaluations. You'll also need to complete the designated school district's HR process for school volunteers or similar roles.
