Job description
The Personal Trainer is responsible for designing and delivering personalized fitness programs to help clients achieve their health and wellness goals. This role includes conducting fitness assessments, providing instruction on proper exercise techniques, and offering motivation, accountability, and support. The trainer ensures a safe and engaging training environment and builds strong relationships to foster client success.
Salary Range
$28.00 - $40.00/hour
Essential functions
- Conduct initial consultations and fitness assessments for new clients.
- Develop customized workout plans based on client goals, fitness level, and medical history.
- Instruct clients on proper form, technique, and equipment use.
- Monitor client progress and adjust programs as needed.
- Provide encouragement, motivation, and education on health and wellness.
- Ensure the training area is safe, clean, and properly equipped.
- Maintain accurate records of sessions and client progress.
- Uphold professional standards and comply with organizational policies.
- Promote personal training services and contribute to member retention.
- Complete required abuse prevention training.
- Attends all staff meetings.
Physical demands
- Ability to stand, move, and demonstrate exercises for extended periods.
- Lift and move fitness equipment up to [insert weight, e.g., 50 lbs].
- Perform physical activities that require strength, stamina, and agility.
Qualifications
- Required certifications: CPR, First Aid, AED, national certification (ACE, NETA, AFAA, NASM) in group fitness instruction or YMCA Foundations of Group Exercise certification.
- Certified as a personal trainer from YMCA, AFAA, ACSM, ACE, NASM or other accredited organization.
- YMCA Healthy Lifestyles certification within 60 days of hire.
- Orientation to Healthy Living at the Y, Foundations of Listen First, Principles of Member Health & Wellness.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to motivate and safely train clients of all ages and fitness levels.
- Previous personal training or fitness instruction experience preferred.
