- Standards: SOFFI. Must teach classes to the abilities of their patrons, not their own. Provide leadership and guidance to participants regarding proper form and skills. Report to class with enough time to prepare room, set up equipment, arrange music, greet guests and verify attendees. Communicate with participants regarding any changes for the class. Report any problems or repairs of equipment to Group Exercise Coordinator or Fitness Operations Supervisor following appropriate procedures immediately after class. Attend all staff meetings and trainings. Advises participants on program and class policies and procedures, as appropriate. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. Communicate information, as needed, to patrons.

- FUNCTIONS: Perform other duties and requirements as assigned. Maintain a positive attitude toward all patrons. Request supplies that are needed for the type of class being taught; All requests should be submitted to Fitness Operations Supervisor. Maintain weekly attendance sheets.
- QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience: Group Exercise Instructors must be 18 years or older, and possess knowledge of instructor-led fitness, in the discipline for which the instructor has been hired.
Education
Minimum of a high school diploma.
Skills
Group Exercise Instructors must be able to work on their own without direction; must be able to address patron concerns from participants in a courteous and professional manner.
Certifications
Must be certified as an Instructor through a nationally accredited association, in each of the class formats they teach (i.e. AFAA, ACE, YogaFit), as required. Must possess current CPR, AED, and First-Aid Certification or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire date.
Competencies
- Group Exercise Instructors, as with all Park District employees, must believe in the Gurnee Park District mission and philosophy and work as a team member of the Gurnee Park District Fitness Staff.
- Physical
- DEMANDS: 100% of your time will be on your feet teaching classes and providing instructions to group exercise participants. This is an active position. Lifting is a requirement in terms of demonstrating use of equipment and providing demonstrations for customers of how to use various fitness equipment within your own weight limitations. Occasional lifting of boxes with supplies, equipment, or promotional items which are typically around 25 lbs.
