Summary/General description of job
Under the direct supervision of the Program Coordinating Team, the Youth Coordinator supervises camp participants at all times. This includes in camp, during camp outings, and while in cabins. Youth Coordinators are responsible for the care and conduct of up to ten (10) youth at once. Youth Coordinators will be assigned cabin and camp participants to supervise on a continual basis for the duration of each camp session.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & JOB FUNCTIONS, including but not limited to
Provides supervision, education and assistance to assigned camp participants during camp sessions. Works with the Program Coordinating Team and other Nuuciq Spirit Camp staff to maintain safety on Nuchek Island. Provides support for housing, chores, meals, and other traditional, scheduled activities. Ensures participants are up in the morning and in bed at night in accordance with established schedules. Works closely with Kitchen Assistant during scheduled chore times. Monitors assigned participants to ensure their personal safety and active participation in camp activities Reports any safety concerns to the Program Coordinating Team. Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS (Education, Experience, Professional Associations)
Mandatory:
At least eighteen (18) years of age. Successfully pass a pre-employment background check. Works effectively with individuals of various ages Perform under pressure and effectively handle numerous priority events simultaneously
Knowledge Of: camp procedures, policies, and practices; social and cultural needs of the Nuuciq Spirit Camp communities;
Ability To
maintain confidentiality; communicate effectively orally and in writing; deal with people in a professional and courteous manner; exercise good judgement and initiative; be self-motivated and work with minimal supervision; interpret and analyze work-related problems and respond appropriately; work as a member of a team of individuals working toward a common goal
